Secret of success
What would it take for you to consider yourself a “successful blogger”? Is that something you strive for?
I can’t believe it’s been three years since I started blogging. I remember how nervous I was to start writing because I didn’t think I was going to gain any readers. But, on the flip side, I was excited because I enjoy writing. I’m a journalist, a writer, and now I was adding blogger to the list.
I’m constantly reading blogs and I’m in awe at how many readers come together to participate in someone’s post. I’m no where near that popularity, but I would love to hit that point of success in my blog that people are having a discussion on my writing.
Although I have a long way to go in having a large readership and a huge recognition, I still consider myself a “successful blogger”. I consider myself a “successful blogger” because I find happiness in writing a post. At the end of the day, I’m doing this because it interests me. Of course I would love for my posts to interest others. However, I don’t want to start writing things because it fits a certain audience or because it’s so called “popular” to write about.
I love my blog because I’m focusing on topics that I’m passionate about. I’m writing about the things that make me happy. It’s been three years since I started this blog and I have no plans on stopping now.
The goals I have on moving forward with The Social Rundown and also my side blog The Fashion Rundown is to become a better writer, to communicate better with others, and gain a readership. I don’t care about gaining money from this or become a “famous blogger.” I want to continue making my blog stronger and a place for people to go to for inspiration, advice and more!
Do you see something different?
The blog still has the same layout, same posts….but a new name!
That’s right, I’ve changed my blog name from Destroyed Beauty to The Social Rundown.
I’ve been thinking about this for quite a while. When I created this blog, my intent was just to have fun and write random things. But as I began writing more and checking out other blogs, I realize my name didn’t describe who I was or what I was writing about.
I write about a variety of topics and Destroyed Beauty wasn’t touching on that. When people think of my blog name, it came across as a beauty blog. I’m so inexperience when it comes to beauty!

Now that I started school, I don’t want to stop blogging. It’s been great to come back and write every day a new topic. Unfortunately, it’s unlikely to blog everyday now that my mind is focused on classes and activities. But no fear! I am starting a new schedule.
I will be posting every Tuesday and I will continue to do Writing Prompt Wednesday. I will also be posting Friday Favorites every other week. The time will be the same (12pm), so don’t forget!
It’s September and so I have new goals for the fall.
- College Life: Who wouldn’t want to read about the college life? I’m in my third year of college and I’m still living in a dorm. Follow me as I write about classes, events and friends.
- Guest Bloggers: I wouldn’t mind people writing on my blog. If you ever want to write, just comment on this blog post or on any of my social platforms. I would love to hear from all of you.
- More Photography: I’ve been showing more visuals (a goal of mine in the beginning of summer), so I want to continue to show pictures. People like something they can look at rather than read.
- New Content: I would love to do more themed posts and I have a lot of ideas in mind, so stay tuned!
- A More Snazzy Look: I’ve been working hard on my blog (Do you like it?) and I want to make it even better! Maybe a signature or more links? I always appreciate your advice on making the blog nice and easy to go through.
I really hope to get these goals accomplished this semester.

State of your year
Write up a mid-year “State of Your Year” post
I can’t believe we’re half way done with the year. Where has the time gone? Although this summer has been okay, I still got a lot done in the last six months. In just half of a year, I managed to accomplish and learn many things.
One thing I can say I accomplished this year was blogging more. Back in January, I began posting, but with school I didn’t post too much. As soon as summer hit, I began posting two times, maybe even four times a week.Since I’ve been blogging, I’ve gained readership. I’m constantly seeing people commenting and sharing my posts with others on their social media sites. This year I joined Bloglovin
where I now have 43 followers who get my blog posts updated to their dashboard.
Although I have a long way to go to reach popular blogger status, I’m still grateful that people take the time to read what I have to say.

…my sincere apologies. March and April flew by and now it’s the end of May without a single post to explain my absence from blogging. Well I hope this gives you an insight of why.
Journalism II & Feature Writing
Let me start by saying that this semester has been the hardest one yet. I made myself promise to blog twice a week no matter what, but then every two weeks I was completing an article for my Journalism II class. Then, the next day I was working on stories for my Feature Writing class, all while going to club meetings and work study.
‘I was overwhelmed’ will be an understatement. The most challenging class was Journalism II. Journalism II was faced with doubts and tears (many many tears) that only made me stronger in the end. Article after article brought me down, making me doubt whether Journalism was for me. But there was something pushing me forward.
Journalism is what I want to do and I’m determined to prove that I can do this.
