My Take On ’13 Reasons Why’

I decided to finally watch the anticipated Netflix series 13 Reasons Why which aired on March 31st. I remember reading the book a few years ago and enjoying it.

Now I realize, I was enjoying it for the wrong reasons.

News was circling around how graphic the show was and I was curious if I remember the book at all. After watching all thirteen episodes, I understood what everyone was saying and many questions starting with:

What was the creators of the show’s target audience? Did they really take account the sensitivity of the topics?

Dear America

I wish the world was a better place. As human beings, we try to distract ourselves from the turmoil that is happening around us. We never want to speak about violence, sadness or poverty. We distract ourselves with pop culture and technology for happiness while the real issues are ignored.

There has been a lot going on in the news and it just bottles my mind that some people are refusing to see it. Some people just wake up every morning thinking the world is okay. It pains me and makes me upset that the world is this way. There’s so much hatred and inequality going on.

Aside from that there’s so many issues within our own country. From school shootings to racial profiling, America doesn’t feel like a safe country. To be honest, I don’t think America ever was. There are a few things that have been on my mind over the past couple of days.

World Suicide Prevention Day

I did not forget to post on Thursday, so don’t worry. I was going to do my post on Fashion Night Out the next day but nothing really exciting happened. So I thought since I waited so long to post, I’ll give you one today! You even get three this week because I’m still sticking to the Tuesday/Thursday routine.

I thought for my first one, I do it on something serious. Today is World Suicide Prevention Day.

Today instead of complaining about the clothes you don’t have or the car you can’t drive think about all the people that have it worst than you. You may have a whole family and a bunch of friends, but think of all the people that have no one.

Instead of complaining, start appreciating. Appreciate all the love and support you have because some people don’t have none.

Don’t be selfish, don’t be mean. Bullying has evolve during the years where it’s no longer face to face, but online. NO ONE, NO ONE deserves to be treated like crap. No one should ever have to be bullied for any reason. But don’t just assume that’s the only reason for suicide.
